Description
TheTerraplane was a car brand and model
built
by the Hudson Motor Company of Detroit,
Michigan between 1932 and 1938. In
its
maiden year the car was branded as the Essex-Terraplane. In 1934 the car became simply the Terraplane. They were powerful vehicles in their day that were used in both town and country. The
Terraplane
name was used for both cars and trucks.
This is a 1934 Terraplane Business Coupe. The body lines were more artfully graceful than many other American built cars of that time period. From the shovel nose shape of the grille to the sweep of the front and rear fenders and the sweeping stylish reveals
flowing
through the front fenders, the
running boards
and the rear fenders. The wheels were professionally scalloped to match factory wheel designs provided on Terraplane automobiles when new. This car is showing original mileage at 60,300 miles. The interior is original but sadly has areas along the bottom of the door panels and the bottom of the seats where it had become subject to moths. A quality upholsterer could correct this problem easily. This car is not a show car. It is a respectful and reliable driver. I believe that all of the chrome is still original factory chrome except the bumpers which seem to have been replated. They do have some chrome loss and could stand to be replated again. The body is extremely sound. No evidence of any rust out or rust repair in the past. The car has been repainted at some point in time the original fact
ory black and does have some areas of paint blistering along the reveal lines and some minute blistering in various other areas. The fender welting is not in the best of shape and could be replaced but is still serviceable as is. The car starts, stops, runs and drives out well. It is still 6
volts
throughout. This car draws attention wherever it
goes
.
